OFFICIAL: Arsenal signs [£45 million] forward Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City on a long-term contract.
The 25-year-old Brazilian has signed a contract until June 2027 for the Gunners and will wear the recently vacated number 9 shirt of Aubameyang.
He will be Arsenal’s fourth signing of the 2022 summer after the arrival of Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira and Matt Turner.
Gabriel Jesus arrives at Emirates Stadium after a sucessful four and a half year spell under Pep Guardiola, since joining in 2012 from Palmeiras
Although he was never prolific as Sergio Aguero, Jesus proved to be a reliable, hard-working and popular squad player for Pep Gaurdiola.
He moves to Arsenal in the hope of getting more game, something which couldn’t be guaranteed at City after the signing of Erling Haaland and Julián Álvarez.
In 236 appearances for Man City, Jesus scored 95 goals and assisted 46 times. He has won four Premier League titles, three EFL Cups, an FA Cup and two Community Shields.
Gabriel Jesus on Mikel Arteta:
“We spoke a couple of times about the club, about the project, the future of the club. It was good, it was amazing. I believe 100 per cent in Mikel”.
“I had a very good time with him before, he’s a very good guy & very good coach”.
More from Gabriel Jesus:
“I thank God every day I can be alive, and that I can play in three or four different positions, but I think my position is 9!
“I have come to score goals.”
“I’m so happy to sign for this big club. Since day one when I knew I could come to play for Arsenal, I was happy.
“I know the staff, I know some players, the Brazilian ones. I know there are a lot of top players. They are young and I’m still young as well, so I am so happy to be here to help.
“I come to help, to learn as well and to try to do my best.
“We have to go at it with everyone together, there’s no other way to win things. When you have a good relationship outside of the pitch, inside works automatically, and that’s my mentality.”
