Jamie Carragher slams Manchester United’s star Marcus Rashford for his unacceptable performance in their recent games. Carragher believes that Rashford fails to fulfil his ‘leadership’ responsibilities at the Old Trafford club.
Despite signing a lucrative £300,000-per-week contract that keeps him at United until 2028, the The-26-year-old winger has fallen short of the standards he set last season.
This term, the England international has managed only two Premier League goals, with his most recent penalty against Everton. Overall Rashford’s performance has been below par.
Manchester United’s challenging season has left them outside the top four, and they are already nine points behind league leaders Arsenal. Other players alongside Rashford have also failed to meet the necessary standards during this difficult campaign.
Speaking to SkySports Carragher said: ‘It looks like big problems [at Man United]. I can’t believe where Man United are in the table,’
‘Watching Marcus Rashford last night was an unacceptable performance for a few reasons.
‘That lad didn’t play midweek in the Champions League, but I have been a local player and it’s not easy especially when the team is not doing well.
Carragher echoed: ‘For Rashford and myself and Gerrard at Liverpool it’s your job to fix it and drag others up with you.
‘Watching Rashford he reminds me of Martial and that is the worst possible thing you can say about him. Foreign player comes in and doesn’t really care.
The Liverpool legend further expressed frustration at Rashford’s current lack of form
Carragher concluded saying: ‘As a local player your job to drag others up.
‘You do not stop running for that badge and your supporters as you are supposedly one of them. What you’re asking for from Rashford is leadership.’
