Here is all you need to know about the 2022 Ballon d’Or, nominees, ceremony dates and more.
The nominee’s shortlist for the 2022 Ballon d’Or awards was announced on Friday, August 12.
The 66th edition of the prestigious football award Ballon d’Or will take place earlier than its predecessors due to a change in format from this year on.
The 2022 Ballon d’Or vote will be based on a player’s performances during the past season, rather than during a calendar year.
A player’s achievements from August 1, 2021, to July 31, 2022, will therefore be the basis of the award.
What are the selection and voting format for the 2022 Ballon d’Or
The nominees are selected and presented by France Football and are voted on by international journalists from FIFA’s top 100 nations.
Each journalist will pick a list top five players and points will be awarded to each player. Whichever player who receives the most points in each list will be awarded the prize.
If two players are tied on the same points, the number of first-place votes by the journalist will determine the overall winner of the award.
