The UEFA Europa League knockout round play-off draw.
How the UEFA Europa League knockout round play-off draw worked
The draw featured 16 teams: the third-place teams of the eight Champions League (UCL) groups and the runners-up from each of the eight Europa League (UEL) groups [A – H].
Two seeding pots were formed: one consisting of the eight UEL runners-up (seeded teams) and the second the eight UCL third-place teams (unseeded teams).
UEL runners-up/seeded teams
Olympiakos, Napoli, Ranger, Real Socieda, Braga, Lazio, Dinamo Zagreb, Real Betis
UCL third-place teams/unseeded teams
Atalanta, Barcelona, Dortmund RB Leipzip, Sheriff Tiraspol, Porto, Sevilla, Zenit
The UEL play-off draw in full:
Atalanta v Olympiakos
Barcelona v Napoli
Borussia Dortmund v Rangers
RB Leipzig v Real Sociedad
Sheriff Tiraspol v Braga
Porto v Lazio
Sevilla v Dinamo Zagreb
Zenit St Petersburg v Real Betis
The first legs of the Europa League play-off round will take place on February 17 and the return legs a week later, February 24. The seeded teams will go away in the first leg and play home in the second.
One major change of this season sees the “away goals” rule removed, so matches levelled after both home and away encounters will go to 30 minutes of extra time.
If the side still cannot be separated after the additional 30 minutes, then it goes to a penalty shootout.
